The Origin of the Belt and Road Initiative
General Secretary Xi’s strategic vision: On September 7, 2013, Xi Jinping delivered a speech at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan, stating, "To foster closer economic ties among countries, deepen mutual cooperation, and unlock broader development opportunities, we can embrace innovative models of collaboration. Together, we can build the 'Silk Road Economic Belt,' expanding from specific points to broader regions, linking lines into cohesive areas, and ultimately fostering large-scale regional cooperation."
On October 3, 2013, President Xi addressed Indonesia’s parliament, saying, "China is committed to strengthening maritime cooperation with ASEAN countries, making effective use of the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund established by the Chinese government, and cultivating robust partnerships for ocean-based development."

Aquaculture Tip: Feeding Techniques for Channel Catfish
Feed Selection: It’s best to prepare the feed into two types of pellets—sinking and floating. When the water temperature is above 15°C, offer floating feed; however, when the temperature drops below 15°C, switch to sinking feed. Feed twice daily—once in the morning and once in the afternoon—and aim to spread the feeding area as widely as possible. Monitor the fish’s feeding behavior daily and adjust the feeding rate accordingly.
Feeding Schedule: For fish weighing less than 50 grams, feed three times a day. For fish weighing 50 grams or more, reduce feeding to twice daily—at around 8:00–9:00 AM and 4:00–5:00 PM. The daily amount of feed should be determined based on the total weight of fish in the pond and the current water temperature. At temperatures between 8°C and 15°C, feed an amount equivalent to 1% of the fish’s body weight.

Reflections on Promoting Mutual Insurance for Aquaculture
In recent years, extreme weather events have become more frequent, leading to a surge in natural disasters. From typhoons and droughts to frost damage and earthquakes—combined with outbreaks of diseases—these catastrophes have dealt a severe blow to agricultural production. Since 2006, as part of its new initiatives aimed at strengthening agriculture and benefiting farmers, the government has actively promoted policy-based agricultural insurance programs, which have been warmly embraced by farmers nationwide and significantly enhanced the security of agricultural output. However, despite the inherent similarities between aquaculture and traditional farming or livestock industries, aquaculture insurance remains an untapped area. This is largely due to challenges such as the difficulty in precisely defining insured assets, complex rate-setting processes, high claim frequencies, cumbersome loss assessment procedures, and persistently high理赔 (claim) rates. To address these issues, it’s crucial to accelerate efforts in this sector.

Preservation of aquatic products during long-distance transportation in winter and spring
Live fish transportation: Place plastic film at the bottom and sides of wooden crates (using wooden barrels is even better) to keep the fish immersed in water during transit. To minimize mortality, remove any fish that lack mobility or show signs of physical damage before loading. Additionally, cover the top of the crate with a nylon mesh to prevent live fish from jumping out of the water or falling out of the vehicle. For long-distance transport, employing a sedation method can significantly improve survival rates. This involves injecting a mixture of 50% carbon dioxide and 50% oxygen into the water, inducing a state of temporary unconsciousness in the fish. Once sedated, carefully scoop them out of the water and pack them into plastic bags, boxes, or containers for transport. This technique allows the fish to remain dormant for 30 to 40 hours, ensuring their safe arrival at the destination. Upon reaching their final destination, simply place the fish back into clean water—within minutes, they’ll regain full consciousness and vitality.

[Zhengzhou Wholesale Seafood Market] EU Feed
To minimize the scope of the outbreak as much as possible, the EU has ordered rigorous inspections of slaughtered pigs, with any problematic pigs or pork products to be immediately destroyed. The EU Veterinary Committee will hold an emergency meeting in Brussels on the 10th to discuss countermeasures. Public opinion widely believes that, as with previous crises like mad cow disease and foot-and-mouth disease, this food safety issue will once again erode consumer confidence in European food safety—further worsening the already struggling European food industry, which is still reeling from a credibility crisis.
