Chinese talents returning from abroad are driving China forward, as their dreams light the way ahead. The "2017 Third Annual Overseas Chinese Dream Gala," hosted by the People's Forum Magazine of the People's Daily, kicked off on January 8 in Beijing. At the event, Wei Chenghui, Executive Chairman of a Singapore-based food group, expressed his admiration for Lee Kuan Yew’s visionary outlook. Back in the 1990s, Lee Kuan Yew led a delegation to China and immediately recognized the country’s immense market potential. He not only encouraged the promotion of Mandarin but also championed the idea of expanding overseas. Singapore has always maintained a keen interest in China’s development and remains deeply connected to the Chinese community—and its growth—throughout history. "The Belt and Road Initiative is far more than just an idea; it’s a groundbreaking, globally integrated vision that has the power to connect the entire world. I firmly believe this initiative will profoundly shape future development, enhance human well-being, and ultimately bring about historic transformations."

Wei Chenghui believes that when it comes to the relationship between wealth and personal fulfillment, using one’s wealth to help lift others out of poverty and contribute positively to society and humanity is truly meaningful. He emphasizes that achieving success requires hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment to one’s goals. With effort, a talented team, and smart decision-making, success is almost inevitable. However, becoming a billionaire often feels like a matter of chance—something beyond mere control. Wei also notes that external factors can significantly influence an individual’s capabilities, so there’s no need to obsess over how much money you earn. "Twenty years ago, my experience traveling to countries like France and Japan was vastly different from today," he reflects. "Nowadays, you’ll find people speaking Chinese everywhere you go—proof that China is growing stronger and more influential every day. The Chinese Dream, shared by 1.3 billion people, isn’t just another milestone—it’s a testament to China’s rising global prominence. Without China, the world simply wouldn’t be the same."
